This timeless Gilbert and Sullivan musical farce of sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted lovers, and an eccentric Major-General focuses on a young pirate-apprentice named Frederic. On his 21st birthday, Frederic tells his shipmates that he plans to give up life as a pirate to marry Mabel, the daughter of the Major-General. Alas, the pirates point out that Frederic was born on February 29th, meaning he is actually only four and must stay with them for another 66 years until he “comes of age”! When the police arrive to capture the pirate crew, the pirates announce that they are actually lords of the realm gone bad. Declaring their renewed allegiance to Queen Victoria, they renounce piracy and allow Frederic to marry Mabel after all, with everyone merrily singing their way to a “proper” happy ending.
