It’s 1959 and the students of Rydell High face a new school year with rebellion and romance in the golden era of rock ‘n roll. The Burger Palace Boys, led by teenage heartthrob Danny Zuko, focus on hot cars while the Pink Ladies experiment with cigarettes and pierced ears. New girl in town Sandy Dumbrowski, fresh from a brief summer fling with Danny, is stunned when he ignores her because of her squeaky clean image. Meanwhile, cool guy Kenickie and his worldly girl Betty Rizzo are having problems of their own. Eventually Sandy transforms herself into a greaser’s dream girl and leaves Danny “All Choked Up.” The inevitable teenage hang-ups, peer pressures and social issues are all brought into the limelight with a musical score celebrating rock, doo-wop, and accompaniments of twanging guitars and rhythmic drum beats. Notable songs from both the stage and movie versions include Summer Nights, Freddy My Love, Greased Lightning, Look at Me – I’m Sandra Dee, We Go Together, and Shakin’ at the High School Hop. Re-live your teenage years through a musical that’s as “hopelessly cool” in 2008 as it was three decades ago!
