SOME ENCHANTED EVENING - THE SONGS OF RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN Riversides twentieth-anniversary season opens with this glorious celebration of the most memorable songs of the team that established the Broadway musical as a totally American genre, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. Their parade of hit shows across a span of nearly seventeen years of collaboration made Broadway shine with such landmark musicals as OKLAHOMA!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, Me and Juliet, Cinderella, Flower Drum Song, and The Sound of Music. More than just a collection of over thirty iconic R&H compositions, this production interplays their songs in a dialogue between five performers as they develop their personalities and express their perspectives on relationships. From a backstage setting in the first act that features ensemble performances, to an on stage second act devoted to solo performances, listening to the classic songs of R&H styled by each character will be like hearing the music and lyrics for the very first time. Dont miss the passion and beauty of Richard Rodgers music and the deceptively simple yet moving lyrics of Oscar Hammersteinlive and on stage at Riverside Center for the Performing Arts!

SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS Bursting with rambunctious energy, fun, and romance, this musical frontier adventure set in 1850s Oregon tells the story of Milly, a new bride who finds herself caring for her husband Adams six slovenly brothers at their wilderness ranch. With a mind to transforming the brothers into civilized marriage material, she attempts to teach them the social graces in preparation for a church gathering in town. But the overly enthusiastic brothers take matters into their own hands when, sparked by desire, they kidnap six women from town who then become stranded at the ranch for the winter. Milly banishes the men from the house while the women are there, and by the time spring arrives, the brothers realize their error and decide to escort the women back to town. Theyre met by the townsfolks rescue party who assumes the worst, and even though love has bloomed with the spring thaw, a rollicking shotgun wedding ensues. Featured songs include Wonderful, Wonderful Day, Goin Courtin, Sobbin Women, A Woman Ought To Know Her Place, and Glad That You Were Born.

ON GOLDEN POND This classic American comedy/drama is every bit as touching, warm, and witty today as when it debuted on Broadway in 1979. When Ethel and Norman Thayer return to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year, they are visited by their divorced daughter and her fiancé who then go off to Europe leaving his teenage son behind for the summer. Norman is a near-80 retired professor with heart palpitations and a failing memory who retains his tart-tongued, observant eagerness for life. Ethel is ten years younger and the perfect foil for Norman, delighting in all the small things that have enriched their long life together. The teenage boy quickly becomes the grandchild the elderly couple has longed for, and as Norman revels in taking his ward fishing, he also learns some lessons about modern teenage awareness in return. When the summer wanes, so does their brief idyll, and in the final, deeply moving moments of the play, Norman and Ethel are brought even closer together by the incidence of a mild heart attack. Though time is now against them, their years together have been rich and full. Perhaps yet another summer on Golden Pond still awaits. The 1981 movie featuring Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn received three Academy Awards. Our production will feature a SPECIAL CELEBRITY GUEST STAR to be announced soon!
